Ferrari's Luce is sold out through 2027

Ferrari's first all-electric car has done the one thing internet car culture insisted it would not: sell out.

On this week's earnings call, chief executive Benedetto Vigna said the Luce planned for next year is "basically all allocated," according to InsideEVs. Customers ordering now wait about a year for delivery. That follows a July disclosure that the $560,800 EV had already hit its 2026 sales target after only a few months on sale.

Ferrari has not published a volume figure or a regional split. Two unnamed sources told the Financial Times the company planned to sell just under 500 Luces this year. Longer term, Ferrari has talked about roughly 2,500 examples by 2030, or about 600 a year once the ramp settles. The car is the Jony Ive-designed sedan aimed at wealthy buyers already living in electric cars, especially in China and Silicon Valley, rather than at the V12 traditionalists who set the tone on forums.

Those traditionalists have not gone quiet. Former Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo told reporters at launch that saying what he really thought would "be doing Ferrari a disservice," and that he hoped the company would "at least remove the prancing horse from that car." The order book has answered him.

Limited-run Ferraris have always sold to a closed list. What is new is that the closed list is now an EV sedan the brand's own alumni publicly doubted. Allocation through 2027 is not a referendum on taste. It is a referendum on who actually writes the cheques.
