Last call is coming for Everson Royce Bar

Los Angeles is losing a bar that understood an important distinction: a thoughtful cocktail need not come with a performance.
Everson Royce Bar in the Arts District is closing in December, Eater LA reports. Its November 6 weekend guide gives December 19 as the closing date. Other published coverage has cited December 20, so anyone planning a final visit should confirm directly rather than build an evening around the last night.

The address is 1936 East Seventh Street. Inside is a dim bar; beyond it is a generously sized patio, the kind of outdoor room that turns one drink into an entire afternoon. Eater’s Ben Mesirow singles out the biscuits, burgers, smoky potato taquitos and both red and green micheladas. The attraction is the combination, rather than any one trophy bottle.
The bar’s own website continues to list Wednesday-through-Sunday service and daily happy hour. That is useful current information, but not a reason to assume every service will continue unchanged until the end.

ERB’s departure lands harder than the closure of another photogenic room. A good neighbourhood bar provides repeatable pleasure: enough care in the drinks to justify returning, enough ease to make returning feel natural. You do not need to be told it is an institution while you are sitting in it. You find out when it is leaving.
