Aman’s Puerto Rico plans put Cabo Rojo on the luxury map

Beau Brummell · November 7, 2026
Amantaru is planned for the island’s southwestern coast, with a hotel and residences. There is no opening date yet.

Aman is heading to Puerto Rico, but this is one hotel announcement that does not yet belong in a travel itinerary.

The luxury group has announced Amantaru in Cabo Rojo, on the island’s southwestern coast. The Points Guy reports that the hillside project, near the ocean, will combine a hotel and residences with a wellness centre, restaurants and bars inside the Escencia development. An opening date has not been announced.

That last detail matters. A resort name, a location and an architectural image establish an ambition, not an available room. There are no confirmed opening rates or bookable dates in the announcement reported by TPG.

The combination of hotel and residences is equally worth noting. This is not simply a new place to stay for a few nights: the project brings Aman’s hospitality identity into a larger residential development. Buyers and hotel guests will be looking at related, but different, propositions.

For Cabo Rojo, the announcement adds a globally recognised luxury name to a part of Puerto Rico outside the usual San Juan-centred conversation. For travellers, the sensible response is interest rather than urgency. Keep the destination on the long list. Wait for an opening timetable before treating the renderings as a reason to book a flight.
